Unlike the Blackbirds, the D-21 Locations are quite elusive. Below is a compilation of D-21 serial numbers and their corresponding dispositions. This list is loosely based on one previously obtained from the National Museum of the United States Air Force many years ago. A special thanks goes out to Jim Goodall, Peter Merlin, and Doug Nelson for helping to make this list accurate. The information provided in this list is accurate to the best of our knowledge. There have been many discrepancies in previous lists and we are working to eliminate any misinformation. Locations marked with an asterisk (*) have been confirmed.
There were 38 D-21 drones produced according to reliable documentation. However, one particular drone, #539, is evidently the D-21 on display at Beale AFB, CA. Several lists purport this information, including the original AF Museum list. It is our opinion that this is a mistake. It should also be noted that all D-21s are "B-models." D-21s #501 - #505 were built, and then converted to D-21Bs. Then, 32 D-21Bs were constructed.
